Texas Citizen’s Bank

Customized Solution

Texas Citizens Bank, a boutique private bank with six locations in the Houston, TX area, was facing high exposure to the western sun resulting in the need for employees to close the blinds in the bank; an unsafe activity for financial institutions. To improve comfort, Texas Citizens Bank turned to EES Consulting to first assess and then implement energy efficiency solutions in several of their bank locations. To help them get the most financial benefits, EES designed a customized solution specifically for their needs.

EES Consulting’s customized solution consisted of installing energy efficient window film on the western facing windows. The financial benefits of this solution was bilateral, reducing utility costs through kilowatt hour reduction and increasing the lifetime of equipment by reducing the heat load on the HVAC unit. The less heat that is put into the bank from the windows means the less work that the HVAC unit will have to do to keep the building cool.

Big savings

Prior to the energy efficiency improvements, Texas Citizens Bank was using an average of 9,596 kWh per month. After the improvements, the bank’s average kWh usage was 8,061 kWh with over $1,800 in cost savings, a 16 percent decrease.

President and Organizing Director, Mike Cornett, was very pleased with EES Consulting’s work and has referred EES to a number of the bank’s clients.

“Without fail, every one of the clients that we’ve referred EES to have been very pleased with them,” he said.

While energy efficiency improvements can have a huge impact on a business’ financials, Mike’s primary goal in hiring EES was to make his bank more comfortable. After the installation, they were able to turn their thermostats to a normal temperature without worrying about their employees and customers being uncomfortable from the heat coming in through the windows.

“The air conditioning units were running full steam ahead prior to the filming just to maintain a comfortable temperature in the lobby and in the offices with western sun exposure,” said Cornett. “We were able to throttle those thermostats back and keep it on a normal temperature. It has just helped out immensely.”

By working with EES Consulting, Texas Citizens Bank was able to reduce costs, increase comfort, improve the customer experience and diminish their impact on the environment.
