Billiard Factory, one of the nation’s largest gaming and furniture retailers, had a maintenance headache; they were constantly replacing burnt out light bulbs. Although facing this problem, the Billiard Factory never believed that energy efficient light fixtures could be a solution for them. They believed LED light bulbs to be very expensive and could not imagine the investment being worth the return. To help the Billiard Factory resolve their maintenance issue without exceeding their budget, EES Consulting designed a customized solution specifically for their needs.
EES Consulting’s customized solution consisted of retrofitting all of the Billiard Factory locations in Houston, San Antonio and Austin, TX. What the Billiard Factory did not realize was that they could replace all of their inefficient, hot lights with high efficiency LED fixtures with only a two-and-a-half year paybacj. The financial benefits of this solution were bilateral, reducing utility costs through kilowatt hour reduction and reducing the heat load on the HVAC unit. The less heat that is put into the store from the windows means the less work that the HVAC unit will have to do to keep the building cool.
Prior to the energy efficiency improvements, Billiard Factory was using an average of 53,192 kWh per month. After the improvements, the retail store’s average kWh usage was 11,546 kWh per month with over $14,000 in annual cost savings, a 78 percent decrease.
Owner, Ryan Stick, was very pleased with what he learned EES Consulting could do.
“When we saw what we could get with a five-year warranty on the LED bulbs and not have to constantly change them and keep the heat down in the stores, we decided to go for it,” he said.
While the energy efficiency improvements had a huge impact on Ryan’s financials, he was most concerned about keeping his showroom lit and comfortable for customers. His employees are happier because they have working lights and the stores are much cooler.
“One of the biggest problems we had was a lot of light bulbs continuing to go out,” said Stick. “Customers expect you to have your showroom lit when they come in.”
By working with EES Consulting, Billiard Factory was able to reduce costs, increase comfort, improve the customer experience and diminish their impact on the environment.
