The Race for Rebates is On! How Much is Left for 2016?
Just barely through the first quarter of 2016, the race for utility rebate money has already begun. Last year, CenterPoint Energy sold out of their $7 Million budget by July, but the pace has picked up in 2016. Nearly 40% of the rebate budget is already assigned, leaving $4 Million remaining in CenterPoint Energy’s Commercial Standard Offer Program for this year.
With the extension of 179D Federal Tax Incentives through the end of 2016, there has never been a better time to take advantage of free money for energy efficiency improvements. According to new legislation signed in December of 2015, commercial energy efficiency projects placed into service by the end of 2016 are eligible for a deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot.
Add to that the utility rebates of 25-40%, plus the immediate reduction in operating costs, and you could see some serious savings in 2016!
Business owners still have a chance to participate in CenterPoint Energy’s Commercial Standard Offer Program on a first come, first serve basis, but you must act quickly. EES Consulting has already secured thousands of dollars for our commercial clients in 2016, and we continue to monitor the utility incentive budget very closely.
