Recycling is a great way to add another branch to corporate sustainability program. It can greatly decrease the amount of waste your business sends to the landfill especially if you a discarding mostly office paper.

There are many benefits to recycling such as saving landfill space, conserving resources, reducing pollution and saving energy and water. Many Americans have realized these benefits since 1990 with 34.5% of all municipal solid waste (MSW) recovered (recycled and composted) in 2012 but there is still work to do.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 50% of all landfills are paper. If just one ton of newspapers were recovered, three cubic feet of space would be saved. Imagine how much space could be saved if the 26.3 million tons of paper and paperboard products that were discarded in 2012 had been recovered.

What kind of difference could your building make in reducing the amount of MSW discarded in 2014?Photo courtesy of nuttakit/freedigitalphitos.net
